It is true, up to 80% of the jobs that are out there are not advertised.
There is a simple explanation for this, what often happens is:
Employers recruit internally first and if they are unable to find anybody fit for the position they are hiring for, they pass the requirements over to a recruiter. A recruiter will email and headhunt using their database and connections they have, and if they are still unable to find anybody for the role. only then they advertise online.
